What the REP does
The Re-Entry Permit allows a Singapore PR to leave and return to Singapore while keeping PR status. New PRs usually receive an REP when their PR is approved, often valid for up to 5 years.
If you leave Singapore without a valid REP, you may lose your PR status. Renew well before it expires.
What affects REP renewal
ICA considers your ties to Singapore when deciding how long to renew your REP. Relevant factors include:
- Whether you live and work in Singapore
- Your CPF contributions and tax filings
- Whether your family lives in Singapore
PRs who spend long periods overseas may get a shorter REP or have renewal refused. Plan ahead if your work takes you abroad.
Frequently asked questions
When should I renew my REP?
Apply well before your REP expires, ideally several months in advance, especially if you travel often.
Can I renew my REP while I am overseas?
Renewals are done online, but your time spent outside Singapore affects the outcome. Talk to us before you make long-term plans to live abroad.
